Aossey Supports Democracy and Economic Development
Local Business Leader Supports New Democracy and Economic Development
Washington, D.C. – Cedar Rapids, Iowa based Midamar Corp. founder Bill Aossey visited the U.S. Department of State on Tuesday, November 15th to participate in the “Tunisia Partnerships Forum.” The Forum, hosted by the Department of State and the White House, discussed the wide range of public and private sector efforts promoting economic development and democracy in Tunisia. Mr. Aossey joined other business executives, investors, entrepreneurs and philanthropists from across the United States for the Forum. Also included were Tunisian Diaspora leaders and approximately 25 business representatives from Tunisia. The discussions centered on revenue-generating initiatives to benefit jobs in the U.S.A. through exports and to foster job creation and economic opportunity in Tunisia.
Bill Aossey was selected as one of fifteen businessmen to participate in an afternoon White House Round Table Discussion for proposed development projects in Tunisia.
“Midamar actively engages with developing countries and is ideally situated to act as an economic bridge between the U.S.A. and Tunisia,” said Aossey. “Good business overseas means good business for the U.S.A.; I am optimistic about the opportunity to develop contacts in the newly reformed Tunisia and support jobs in the U.S.A. in the process.”
Additionally, Aossey attended a special White House-led breakout session of the Tunisia Partnerships Forum at the Department of State. The Arab American Business Partnership Initiative’s Donor Coordination Summit hosted Arab American Diaspora leaders as well as representatives from international foundations and NGOs in a round table discussion. The focus was on how to augment U.S. foreign policy and encourage investments and development in North Africa and West Asia/Middle East.
Aossey founded an international development company in 1972 to address global hunger and malnutrition after his experiences in the Peace Corps in West Africa. The newly formed organization grew into Midamar Corporation, a major Halal food and global supply chain supplier. Today Midamar, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, serves customers throughout the United States as well as internationally.
Aossey is currently engaged in a project to build the first modern meat processing facility in Afghanistan. The founder of Midamar Corporation just completed a one week visit to Afghanistan to formalize the feasibility plans for building a meat processing plant to be managed and run by Afghanis in Parwan Province. Aossey's visit to Afghanistan was facilitated by USAID officials in Kabul, the USAID-funded Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA), and Provincial Reconstruction Teams.
Minister Noorullah Delawari, the Chief Executive Officer of AISA, said, "Afghanistan is fertile ground for investors especially in the agribusiness sector. We are very pleased to have welcomed Aossey and the Midamar Corporation and look forward to finding ways to work together following his productive visit."
The international development projects initiated in Afghanistan by Aossey stimulate job creation and economic growth in the USA as well as in the developing country.
